VA requires Persons in Authority to complete screening before working with athletes or within a club: a valid criminal record check, Safe Sport Training or current Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders, the annual Screening Disclosure Form, and membership requirements. Coaches must also meet the coaching requirements applicable to their role.

Approved September 23, 2026.
Players, coaches, parents and volunteers must treat others respectfully at practices, competitions, travel and online. Bullying, harassment, discrimination, threats and abusive language are unacceptable. Parents must respect officials and allow coaches to coach. Concerns should be raised privately through the appropriate reporting process.
Routine questions should go to the team manager or club administrator. Anyone uncomfortable raising a concern with those individuals may contact Stacie Bilick, Independent Complaints Liaison, at sburback@shaw.ca.
Stacie will help identify the appropriate process and facilitate ordinary club concerns impartially. If a concern involves her child, a close relationship or another conflict of interest, an alternative impartial person will be needed.
Safe Sport concerns and suspected breaches of Volleyball Alberta policies must be directed to ALIAS through VA’s reporting page or 1-855-603-0483. Stacie does not replace this independent reporting process. Club permission is not required to report. Retaliation against anyone raising a concern in good faith is prohibited.
Players should arrive prepared and notify coaches promptly about absences, injuries or limitations. Health, school responsibilities and reasonable family circumstances will be considered.
U13: The emphasis is skill development, confidence and meaningful participation, subject to competition rules.
U17/U18: Playing time may vary based on readiness, effort, attendance, position and team needs. Equal playing time is not guaranteed. Coaches should explain expectations and provide constructive feedback.
Coaches and other Persons in Authority must meet applicable VA screening, membership and training requirements before serving in their roles.
Players must report injuries promptly. A player with a suspected concussion will be removed from participation, with parent/guardian notification and medical assessment arranged. Return to volleyball must follow VA’s Concussion Policy and Protocol, including required medical clearance.
Club communication with minor athletes should include a parent/guardian or take place in an approved group channel. Private player and family information must only be used for legitimate club purposes and shared with those who need it.
Public photos, videos and player identification require appropriate consent. Families may decline promotional media use without affecting participation. Changing rooms and other private spaces must never be photographed or filmed.
Before each trip, families will receive the itinerary, costs, supervision arrangements and emergency contact information. Parent/guardian permission is required for club-organized travel. Changes to transportation or athlete pickup must be communicated to the designated team contact.
Each family is expected to contribute to a club or team role. Families may volunteer for a main position; remaining responsibilities will be assigned or shared through the team manager. Families needing an accommodation should contact the club privately.
Fees, payment dates, included expenses and separately paid costs must be provided in writing before commitment. Payment plans require written agreement.
Outstanding prior-season fees must be paid, or an agreed deposit received and a payment plan established, before an athlete is rostered.
